Marvelous Mustard Enjoyed by Many

On Sunday August 8th, a constant stream of hungry mustard enthusiasts took part in the fourth annual “Great Saskatchewan Mustard Festival,” and enjoyed original culinary creations presented on behalf of some of Regina’s most reputable restaurants.

“This year’s sold out Mustard Festival exceeded all expectations as we doubled our attendance from last year’s event,” states Malcolm Craig, one of the event organizers.

Hundreds of guests enjoyed sampling an array of original and flavourful mustard creations, while relaxing on one of Regina’s most picturesque decks, The Willow on Wascana. Coupled with live entertainment; children’s finger painting, using mustard of course; and the first ever ‘Celebrity Hot Dog Slider Eating Contest,’ the Festival was a great way to celebrate a Saskatchewan grown product and National Mustard Day, which was the day prior.

A highlight of the day was the annual Chef’s Competition.  All participating restaurants showcased original mustard donned dishes in anticipation of winning the highly regarded “Yellow Jacket”.  Crave Kitchen and Wine Bar won with their creative creation, “Sweetcorn Pogo with a Mustard Ice Cream and Chipotle Raspberry Sauce.”

The Saskatchewan Mustard Development Commission (SMDC) was a major sponsor again this year. ”Saskatchewan producers are the world’s largest mustard exporters and we are very pleased to  collaborate with some of Saskatchewan’s most talented Chefs as we celebrate this savoury spice,” states Adele Buettner, General Manager of the SMDC.

Sponsors included Z99, SMDC, Sysco Food Services, French’s, Great Western and Nathan’s Famous.
